Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM Tui Na

Traditional Chinese Medicine Tui Na massage is now offered at Hastings Spa with certified practitioner! Tui Na uses pressure with movement while its cousin, Acupressure massage, uses static pressure to manipulate acupressure points on the body. Come experience another level of health boosting massage!

TCM Massage Tui Na

principle

Tui Na is both a form of physical bodywork and a subtle energy medicine. It uses the idea of QI – a fundamental concept in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture theory. A western translation of Qi would be life force. Tui Na massage aims to boost this life force by improving  its flow through the body by relieving stress points and toxic build up in the muscles, joints, bones and the acupressure meridian channels.

Benefits

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), making sure that the inner and outer workings of the body are in harmony is crucial to one’s well being. When the Yin and Yang are not in balance, the body will not be at its best.

During a Tui Na massage, the practitioner engages the flow of qi (energy) in the body. They do so by using its own massage techniques to remove any blockages in your body that is stopping the flow of qi. When the flow of qi (energy) is restored in the body, healing starts.

Our TCM practitioner locates and massages out of sync parts of the body to bring about healing to the whole, treating both the body’s external and the internal. These are some basic techniques used in TCM Tui Na massage:

  • Lifting (ti)
  • Pressing (an)
  • Rejoining (jie)
  • Pushing (tui)
  • Kneading (mo)
  • Holding (na)
  • Opposing (duan)
  • Palpating (mo)

Methodology

The techniques used by your TCM practitioner can be categorized as either a Yin (passive) or Yang (active) approach. The Yin techniques are more gentle, while the Yang techniques will be more dynamic to treat differing conditions.

Depending on your needs, your practitioner will recommend suitable techniques to help realign your body and regulate the flow of qi (energy) in your body. Unlike normal massages, Tui Na massage can be used to maintain the body in good health physically, as well as treat pain and illness.

Tui Na massage is commonly used to treat the following conditions:

  • Neck and back pain
  • Digestive issues
  • Stress
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Fatigue and insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Arthritis and osteoporosis
