Saunas

High Heat or Steam?

Both types of sauna are good! It all depends on your preference and ability to tolerate certain humidity and temperature level. Try them both and decide for yourself, or let us help you find your match.

High Heat Sauna

High Heat Sauna

It uses electricity and is less humid than a steam sauna; typical humidity is around 0% to 10% which can be increased to 25% by adding a small ladle of water to the rocks when the rocks are very hot. A steam sauna can generate up to 50% humidity with the same method.

Steam Sauna

It is NOT a steam bath or steam room. A steam bath or steam room can feel hotter sometimes even though they are much cooler because they have much higher humidity; typically near or at 100% which prevents sweat evaporation while amplifying the heat. One can stay much longer in a steam saunas safely.

*Recent studies have shown that the higher temperatures in steam or high heat saunas effectively eliminated SARS-CoV-2 viruses over a period of time. Conversely, the lower temperatures found in steam baths or steam rooms were not effective. The lower temperatures and high humidity also increased the risk of transmission.

According to LA times Study, ‘Men who take frequent saunas live longer, study shows’. Why that is remains elusive but it most certainly applies to women as well. There are many other benefits to using high heat or steam saunas regularly. You can also check them out our sauna health benefits page for more interesting facts.
