Steam Sauna Vancouver
Private High Heat & Steam Saunas Rooms
Experience the Tradition of Sauna in Privacy
At Hastings Spa, we believe the sauna is more than heat — it’s a ritual. For nearly a century, Vancouver locals and visitors have enjoyed our private sauna suites as a way to cleanse, recover, and relax in peace.
Unlike public gyms or pools, every sauna session here is fully private. Each suite includes its own shower and resting area, giving you comfort and cleanliness from start to finish. Whether you come alone, with a partner, or with a group of friends, our saunas offer a space to reset and recharge.
Finnish Bath Culture in Vancouver
Saunas are deeply rooted in Finnish culture, where they are considered a way of life. Traditionally, families and communities gathered in saunas to share warmthe, sweat out toxins, and streghten their health. In Finland, it’s said that “the sauna is the poor man’s pharmacy” — a place where the body and mind are restored together.
When Hastings Spa was founded 100 years ago, its owner was inspired by these Finnish bath traditions. Today, that heritage continues. Many of our guests still view sauna as more than just relaxation — it’s a personal ritual that improves both physical and mental balance.
What is a Steam & High Heat Sauna?
At Hastings Spa, we offer two main styles of sauna:
- Gas-heated moist saunas – Add water to hot rocks to create steam and raise humidity up to 50%. This style provides a warm, moist atmosphere that feels refreshing on the skin and lungs.
- Electric high-heat saunas – Reaching up to 195º F with 0-25% humidity, these saunas offer dry, intense heat with the option of creating small bursts of steam.
Both are rooted in Finnish tradition — pouring water over hot rocks (called loyly) to create waves of steam and heat.
Note: We do not offer steam rooms (which run at 100% humidity). Instead, our saunas give you the benefits of moist or dry heat in a more balanced, comfortable way.
Benefits of Steam & High Heat Saunas
For the Body
- Skin cleansing – Moist heat opens pores and flushes impurities, leaving your skin clear and refreshed.
- Muscle relief – Heat relaxes tight muscles and loosens stiff joints, making recovery faster after workouts or long workdays.
- Circulation boost – Blood vessels expand in the heat, improving cardiovascular function and delivering oxygen throughtout the body.
- Immune support – Some studies suggest regular sauna use may improve immune resilience.
For the Mind
- Stress release – Saunas trigger endorphin release, calming the nervous system.
- Mental clarity – Many guests describe the sauna as a “reset button” for the mind.
- Better sleep – Heat exposure followed by a cool shower can promote deeper, more restful sleep.

Steam vs. Dry Sauna – What’s the Difference?
Steam saunas operate at slightly lower temperatures than dry saunas but feel hotter due to increased humidity when steam is generated by adding small amount of water to the hot rocks which intensifies heat sensation.
At Hastings Spa, besides our High Heat Dry or Steam Saunas, we also offer Hybrid Infrared Saunas. If you prefer gentler heat that penetrates deep into muscle tissue, check out our Infrared Sauna Vancouver page.
